How to Join
The first step to join Air Force ROTC at BGSU is to register for our Fall Aerospace Studies 1110 course or the Spring Aerospace Studies 1120 course. Before you do that, see the entry requirements below:
Be accepted to our university or one of our cross-town universities we service. Sign-up to take AFROTC courses as a freshman or sophomore. You must have a minimum college cumulative GPA of 2.0 (if you had prior college courses) to enter the program. You must meet minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 by the end of your sophomore Fall semester (see note below).
Air Force ROTC requires a minimum of 3 years to complete. You must be a full-time student.
If you have any history of diagnosed medical issues (such as asthma, ADD/ADHD, learning disabilities, eating disorders, eczema/atopic dermatitis, depression/anxiety, etc.) or you take a prescription medication, please let us know. We can help find out if you will be qualified to be an officer before you start. Not all medical issues are disqualifying, but we need to know up front.
New cadets must have a sports physical to participate in our physical training program.
As a member of our program, you must be within the Air Force body mass standard.
You will also have to pass the Air Force Physical Fitness Assessment by the third semester.
The most current information on body mass and fitness assessment standards can be found on the Air Force ROTC Fitness Requirements webpage.
Incoming Freshmen
You may join the program up to the second Tuesday of each semester. In the fall semester, sign up for AERO 1110. In the spring semester, sign up for AERO 1120.There is a two-hour lab associated with the course as well.
Incoming Sophomores
You may join the program up to the second Tuesday of the fall semester. Sign up for AERO 1110 and AERO 2110. There is a two-hour lab associated with the courses. Some students may encounter difficulty signing up for both classes because the university system may indicate the lab for the two courses conflicts, but it is the same lab. Come by the office in 164 Memorial Hall and we will help you with the paperwork to resolve this issue.
You cannot start the program in the spring semester of your sophomore year. However, depending on how many semesters you have left in school, we may be able to consider you a freshman during this semester. See the note below.
*NOTE: For AFROTC purposes, your academic standing is calculated backwards from your planned date of graduation. If you are a sophomore with four years or more of college left, we will consider you a freshman and you should sign up for the appropriate class. If you are a sophomore or junior with three years of college left, you will be considered a sophomore. Air Force ROTC requires a minimum of 3 years to complete, 5 semesters of which must be as a full-time student (you do not need to be a full-time student your last semester before graduation).
