Fall 2022 semester Open-Enrollment has closed.

Watch your MyBGSU 'to do list' in October for the Spring 2023 semester's open enrollment period.  All waivers and enrollments will be due on December 1, 2022.

After completion, you are required to schedule a virtual appointment to answer your questions, review completed forms and determine if any follow-up actions are needed. A representative will reach out to you to book this appointment, but you can also contact them directly with any questions before your meeting at studentins@bgsu.edu

* If you are unable to complete your health packet prior to arriving to campus, we will assist you during orientation.

International Student Insurance Eligibility Requirements

Dependents | Students who are enrolled in the plan may also insure their dependents (spouse, domestic partner and children until the age of 26.) Eligible Dependents will need to enroll into and pay for the health plan directly through United Healthcare Student Resources.

Optional Practical Training Program | International students that are enrolled into an Optional Practical Training Program are eligible for BGSU student insurance coverage.

Please contact the Student Insurance Office for details at studentins@bgsu.edu for enrollment forms and for more information.

International Student Insurance Enrollment Exemptions

The majority of international health insurance plans are not accepted in the United States and/or Northwest Ohio, which is why you are not able to waive the plan on this web page.

  • Students with approved coverage that is provided by their government /embassy
  • Students with approved coverage provided by a U.S. based employer
  • Students who have coverage through approved policies

If you believe you meet one of these exemptions, you will need to contact the Student Insurance Office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday-Friday at studentins@bgsu.edu, with your health insurance card, BGSU student ID and health insurance policy information in order to complete a waiver.
