Standing Committees
The Graduate Student Senate (GSS) is an active organization on campus that represents and advocates for all graduate students. To sustain our high level of engagement and to better our impact, the GSS has the following standing committees and ad hoc committees as outlined below. Membership in the committees is primarily filled by senators and Senate Executive Council (SEC) members and all committees are governed by the SEC.
Goveranance Committee
The Governance Committee, formerly the Constitution and Bylaws Committee, is in charge of the writing and revision of all governance documents including the Constitution, Bylaws, and Policies; assessment of leadership, administration, and management processes; managing position duties; and make reccommendations for strategic development and planning.
Finance and Allocations Committee
The Finance and Allocations Committee, formerly the Funding for Professional Development Committe, is in charge of the annual budget, developing financial strategies, making and enforcing allocation decisions, and ensuring the sustainability of the Graduate Student Senate.
Service and Engagement Committee
The Service and Engagement Committee is in charge of tabling for university events, managing service opportunities, and coordinating the engagement of the Gradaute Student Senate Membership.
Awards and Arbitration Committee
The Awards and Arbitration Committee is in charge of the selection processes for the multitude of various awards that exist within the GSS' purview and the processes involving internal affairs.
Graduate Student Trustee Search Committee
The Bowling Green State University's Board of Trustees includes two student trustee positions, one of which is filled by a graduate student. The Graduate Student Trustee Search Committee is in charge of producing a sufficient number of acceptable candidates to send to the State of Ohio for selection of the Student Trustee and other related activities.
Ad Hoc Committees
To accomodate and facilitate better representation and advocacy the GSS forms and charges a variety of ad hoc committees. During the 2024-2025 academic year, the GSS will have the following ad hoc committees:
- Faculty-Student Interaction and Mentorship Joint Committee
- This joint ad-hoc committee will be partnering with several academic and administrative units on campus to better understand the issues and take action for improving this component of graduate student experiences inside and outside of the classroom.
