Choose Ohio First Scholarship

For new students in a STEM Major

The Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Choose Ohio First Scholarship program aims to recruit high-achieving students who intend to major in STEM-related majors. This opportunity provides students with a scholarship as well as unique educational and advising experiences for their academic and career success.

The STEM Choose Ohio First Scholarship does not cover general fees. The awarded amount varies but may be combined with other BGSU scholarships, up to the cost of full tuition. Awards are for one academic year. The scholarship award may be renewed but is not guaranteed. All renewals are at the discretion of the scholarship committee.

Once awarded, the scholarship is potentially renewable for three additional years if the criteria are met.

How to Apply

  1. Log in to the Searchable Scholarship Guide with your BGSU ID and password
  2. Select the STEM Choose Ohio First scholarship application
  3. Complete the scholarship application by the deadline listed
  4. You will be notified if you have been selected

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be admitted to BGSU
  • Must be an Ohio resident
  • Must have a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must be an incoming freshman
  • Must be pursuing an accepted STEM major

The Choose Ohio First Scholarship Program is designed to strengthen Ohio's position in the aerospace, computer technology and alternative energy industries. "Choose Ohio First is part of a strategic effort to bolster Ohio's economic strength by ensuring a ready workforce for STEM-Related industries. The scholarship program attributes its success to the "rigor, dedication, and enthusiasm" demonstrated by the students for their chosen STEM fields. College is an investment, and the Choose Ohio First program is proud to assist in offsetting some of that cost for qualified Ohio students."
