Crime Alert

When the BGSU Police determine that a Clery Act crime occurring in our Clery jurisdiction represents a serious or continuing threat to students and employees, they will use the Crime Alert as a vehicle to make timely warnings to the campus community. The purpose of a timely warning is to provide information that will aid in the prevention of similar crimes by enabling people to protect themselves. Below are the Crime Alerts that have been issued over the last five years. 

Bowling Green State University has received a report of a robbery that occurred adjacent to campus. The University is sharing this information for your awareness. Campus notifications are made in compliance with the provisions of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998. Reported Incident

This afternoon, the Bowling Green State University Police Department received a report that earlier today, Oct. 13, 2023, at 3:30 a.m. on the Wooster Street sidewalk north of Lot 21, an unknown male approached two individuals. The suspect made verbal threats and requested money. There were no weapons observed or used during this incident. After receiving money from the individuals, the suspect fled east on Wooster Street. The suspect was described as a male, early to mid-20s, approximately 5 feet, 9 inches tall, 170 pounds, short dark-colored hair, with a black and grey tattoo sleeve on his left arm. There were no injuries reported as a result of this incident, and BGSU Police are continuing to investigate.

Reported Incident

A female student reported that she was sexually assaulted on the first floor of Kreischer Darrow. The incident was reported to have occurred on April 1, 2023, at approximately 11:50 p.m. It was reported that an unknown male sexually assaulted the student in the Kriescher lounge after watching a movie with friends. The student reported that she met the male on social media, and that he is not affiliated with BGSU. If anyone has additional information related to this incident, please contact the Office of the Dean of Students or BGSU Police.

While the ultimate responsibility lies with those who are initiating sex acts, understanding some facts about sexual assault and consent can help reduce the risk. The following information is to heighten your awareness, enable bystanders to intervene where possible and aid in the prevention of similar crimes:

  • On college campuses, 90 percent of sexual assaults are committed by someone known to the survivor.
  • For any sexual activity, consent must be present.
  • A person may withdraw consent at any time.

Reported Incident

A male student reported that he was groped while showering on the fourth floor of Kreischer Darrow. The incident was reported to have occurred on Otober 14, 2022, at approximately 10:30 a.m. It was reported that an unknown male reached into the shower stall and groped the student. The student reported that he pushed down the unknown male and ran out of the restroom. The student described this person as a 6' 2" white male, brown thinning hair, in their twenties, wearing sunglasses and a blue disposable face mask. If anyone has any additional information related to this incident, please contact the Office of the Dean of Students or BGSU Police.

A female student reported that she was sexually assaulted while on the BGSU campus by a male known to her. It was indicated that the assault occurred on the night of April 8, 2021, and/or the early morning hours of April 9, 2021. The female student stated there was oral penetration without her consent and unwanted touching of private body parts.

A female student reported that she was fondled while walking near Prout Chapel on March 24, 2021, between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. It was reported that an unknown male suspect put his hand on her shoulder and grabbed her buttock. Reported Incident:
A female student reported that she was fondled in Offenhauer West on February 6, 2020. The suspect is a male who is known to the student through social media. While in her residence hall room the male suspect touched a private body part without consent.

City of Bowling Green Police are seeking information about a reported kidnapping and sexual assault in the city. Anyone with information regarding this case can call the Bowling Green Police at (419) 352-2571 or Wood County Crime Stoppers at (419) 352-0077.
