Provost Update - October 2024
This month’s update showcases some of the outstanding contributions of our faculty.
Dr. Robert Alexander is the founding director of the Democracy and Public Policy Research Network, or DePo, at BGSU. Launched by the Department of Political Science, DePo has recently garnered national attention through its poll of likely Ohio voters in the upcoming election. This poll has been featured in national venues that include The New York Times, the Washington Post, fivethirtyeight and RealClearPolitics. The DePo’s second poll was released last week.
Dr. Piyawat Louilarpprasert, who joined BGSU this fall as a music composition assistant professor, founded the Tacet(i) Ensemble, which received the prestigious Ernst von Siemens Ensemble Prize for 2025. Louilarpprasert’s ensemble was selected as one of two winners among many applicants across 15 countries. Congratulations to Dr. Louilarpprasert and the members of Tacet(i), which is based in Thailand.
Finally, I would like to encourage everyone to participate in Day of Dialogue: Engaging in Democracy, which will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7. The Day of Dialogue is presented by the Division of Inclusion and Belonging, the DePo and the Marvin Center. The event features panels with elected officials, government affairs professionals and members of the BGSU community about topics central to our democracy. Please see the Day of Dialogue website for more information.
Best of luck as we make our way through the second half the semester. Thank you again for everything you do.
Regards,
Glenn Davis, Ph.D.
Interim Provost and Senior Vice President
