Lead Around YOU! (students bring in soil samples for analyzing)
Student will be asked, with permission of their parents/guardians, to collect soils samples from locations of their choice with a request to sample from drip zones around their residence, yard areas where they and other children may play, and any garden areas.
The students will then analyze their samples with supervision of BGSU personnel to determine their heavy metals content with a focus on lead.
BGSU personnel will also help guide additional soils testing activities, following GLOBE guidelines, for any teachers who requests it. All required materials will be supplied by BGSU.
All of the data generated by the students will be compiled into a GIS map of Toledo showing areas of concern and providing recommendations on how to minimize their exposure and will be presented in a public forum.
