In Brief: November 15
Friday is deadline for required web accessibility training
Tomorrow (Nov. 16) is the deadline for completing web accessibility training for all those responsible for placing or editing content on an official University web page or a University-related web page. This includes administrative and academic units, individuals and organizations. Users are required to take a short, online accessibility course to be authorized content editors in their requested access areas.
If training is not completed by Nov. 16, access to the Content Management System will be immediately denied until the training has been taken.
The original training email was sent Sept. 26, 2018, followed by weekly email reminders to all registered web content administrators, with a personalized link to the training module. That link must be used to get to the course so that users will be properly identified. The training email subject line is "Web Accessibility Training.” If you cannot find the email or have any questions regarding the training, contact mcwebteam@bgsu.edu.
Last opportunity to see ancient mosaics
Last May, Bowling Green State University announced that it had reached an agreement to return 12 pieces of ancient mosaics in the University’s art collection, on display outside the Eva Marie Saint Theatre in the Wolfe Center for the Arts, to the Republic of Turkey.
They will be formally returned to a Turkish delegation next week, removed and packed for shipping.
The University invites the community to view the collection before its return. The mosaics may be viewed from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 15), Friday (Nov. 16) and Monday (Nov. 19).
Faculty, staff encouraged to be part of BG Leadership Academy
Bowling Green State University, through the Office of Human Resources, is hosting the 2019 BGSU Leadership Academy (BGLA). The academy provides an opportunity for faculty and staff to develop their leadership potential and contribute to the continued progress of the University.
BGLA offers a systematic approach for faculty and staff to learn leadership theories and apply them to real institutional initiatives. The five-month, integrated program begins in January, and will include seven, full-day sessions. It is designed to promote relationships and foster collaborations across the University to help BGSU achieve the goals of its strategic plan, according to Viva McCarver, chief human resources officer.
To be eligible to participate in the leadership academy, you must be a current, full-time employee with at least two years of faculty or staff experience at BGSU and request that your supervisor provide a “Nominator Rationale.”
Find more information and apply online. The application deadline is Dec. 3, 2018.
BGSU receives grant from the Ohio Traffic Safety Office
Bowling Green State University has received a $50,000 grant from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Ohio Traffic Safety Office to continue the Safe Communities of Wood County program through Sept. 30, 2019. This is the fifth consecutive year BGSU has received the grant.
Grant money will be used to continue education and raising awareness regarding the use of seatbelts, operating a vehicle under the influence, motorcycle safety, distracted driving, senior citizen driving and commercial vehicles. Safe Communities will continue to participate in local community events throughout Wood County as well as education at local businesses and professional organizations.
Safe Communities of Wood County was created in 2012 to establish a partnership of individuals from law enforcement, local governments, schools, businesses, health departments and community organizations to collaborate, creating awareness and prevention of death and injuries caused by traffic crashes.
Safe Communities works to reduce the number of traffic-related deaths and injuries in Wood County through analysis of problem areas and promotion of and education about proper safety. Program goals include coalition building and fatality data review.
