Dr. Gremler Travels Around the Globe Sharing Research Experience with Young Scholars
He has been honored for his research and teaching expertise and his contributions to the service marketing field by international marketing associations. Now the BGSU service marketing professor is assisting up-and-coming scholars globally to succeed in their research endeavors by sharing his own experiences.
Dr. Dwayne Gremler has been named an Outstanding Marketing Teacher by the Academy of Marketing Science, Master Teacher by the Marketing Management Association, as well as a Fulbright Scholar, and he is the recipient of the 2014 Christopher Lovelock Career Contributions Award, the highest honor given annually by the American Marketing Association’s Services Marketing Special Interest Group.
Dr. Gremler is sharing his world-renowned expertise and highly successful research experience while on a faculty improvement leave from BGSU during 2015-2016. He is assisting Ph.D. students and new assistant professors to consider issues relating to the publishing of relevant and rigorous scholarly research in business journals. Examples of topics he presents include finding interesting research topics, crafting a scholarly manuscript, navigating the publication process, and rewriting previously submitted articles to receive acceptance for publication.
The service marketing professor spent part of last summer presenting at several different conferences including the Academy of Marketing Science Doctoral Consortium held in Denver and the Frontiers in Services Conference in San Jose, California.
He conducted his newly developed “Publishing Scholarly Research” seminar at three universities in England, including Loughborough University School of Business, Newcastle University Business School, and the University of Roehampton Business School. While in England, Dr. Gremler caught up with BGSU marketing alumnus John Bernard ‘10, a senior strategic planner at AKQA in London. At the end of September, the Fulbright Scholar spoke at two universities in Toronto.
The service marketing professor plans to travel over the next nine months to Germany, Belgium, France, The Netherlands, Italy, and Australia. From October through March Dr. Gremler will be a Visiting Professor at HEC School of Management at the University of Liege in Belgium. Liege will be what Dr. Gremler terms his “home base” for much of that time as he serves as a “research mentor” to Ph.D. students there.
Because of the generosity of BGSU alumnus Michael Hoskins '77 and the establishment of the Hoskins Faculty Study Abroad Fund, Dr. Gremler is able travel and pursue unique educational opportunities for the College of Business . This fund is intended to help College of Business faculty travel abroad and share their expertise globally with other institutions and return to BGSU to enrich the classroom with their experiences.
The service marketing professor, who recently was designated as a Distinguished Teaching Professor by BGSU, has begun sharing his unique travelling experiences during his sabbatical through a blog he created: http://dgremler.blogspot.com. Read about his journey of how he is “giving back” to his discipline by helping young scholars around the world get started on their paths to successful research careers.
