Women in Business Leadership Student Organization “Growing” Beyond Business As Usual
Women in Business Leadership (WBL) was established as a student organization in 2013 with the mission of providing a forum for educating, engaging, connecting and promoting women to become successful leaders. Since its inception, WBL has grown from 20 to 50 members with the goal of reaching 100 members by the end of the 2015-16 academic year.
This year WBL welcome a new faculty advisor, Christine Seiler, who worked with the leadership team throughout the summer to develop and solidify programming and procedures for this year. Seiler has taught in the marketing department at BGSU for 16 years and brings decades of corporate experience to the student organization.
As a member of WBL, students have the opportunity to network with top employers in the area at bi-monthly meetings, connect with their peers, participate in a professional mentorship program and obtain priority seating at the annual Women in Leadership conference.
The WBL leadership team provides educational programming on topics relevant to all BGSU women including: Closing the Gap: How to Negotiate; #WomenofInfluence: Powerful women in the Media; The Power of Prioritizing: Work Life Balance; Higher in Heels: Professional Attire; Being a Woman Sells: Marketing to Women and Crunching the Numbers: Financial Planning for the Future.
In addition to programming activities, members take an active role in planning the annual conference and are organizing a new summer leadership program designed for rising high school seniors.
Two weeklong sessions will take place in late June and early July, and attendees will have the chance to develop personal leadership skills and put those skills into practice through hands-on activities. Application information coming early 2016!
