BGSU speaker looks at ‘Kids First'

BOWLING GREEN, O.—David Kirp will present “Kids First: Transforming the Lives of Children” as part of the Bowling Green State University College of Education and Human Development 2011-12 Lecture Series.  He will speak from 1-3 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 13) in 115 Education Building.

A former newspaper editor and a policy consultant, Kirp is a professor of public policy at the University of California at Berkeley. He has written 15 books, most recently “Kids First: Five Big Ideas for Transforming the Lives of Children.” He also writes for The New York Times, The American Prospect and The Nation.

He is a graduate of Amherst College and Harvard Law School. Before working at Berkeley, he taught at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and was the founding director of the Harvard Center on Law and Education.

The lecture series, “Setting the Pace,” is one of the college’s “educational partnerships” programs for area educators and school administrators, as well as students studying education and human development.
