School of Intervention Services professor honored
BOWLING GREEN, O. —Dr. Mary Murray’s extraordinary dedication to students and community agencies that serve individuals with disabilities was recognized March 22 when she received the Community Involvement Award during Bowling Green State University’s Faculty Recognition Dinner. Murray is an assistant professor in the School of Intervention Services.
In her nominating letter, Dr. Lisa Dimling, an assistant professor in intervention services, pointed out Murray’s work as a board member with the Northwest Ohio Regional Autism Advisory Council and her efforts coordinating autism services for professionals and parents throughout northwest Ohio.
Recently, she was appointed to the State Advisory Panel for Exceptional Children, which leads special education in the state.
“During my career at BGSU, I have had ample opportunity to observe the continued service that Dr. Murray provides not only to the community, but also to the university at every level,” said Dimling. “I have never known anyone who has given to the profession more that Dr. Mary M. Murray.”
Members of the Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities said it’s inspiring to see people like Murray who have not lost their sense of the importance of a strong, collaborative community. “Her hard work has become an important resource to our agency and community,” said Vicki Snyder, director of Children’s Options.
Liz Sheets of Wood Lane, an organization that supports children and adults with developmental disabilities, said Murray has had a significant impact on the lives of families, prospective and current teachers and administrators at all levels.
“She shares her knowledge and challenges each person she works with to experience a diverse array of people whose culture, beliefs and backgrounds may be very different from theirs,” explained Sheets. “These opportunities give everyone a different perspective that will guide the students and families to work as a team on behalf of their child’s education.”
