13 is lucky number for Dance Marathon

BOWLING GREEN, O.—More than 200 dancers helped Bowling Green State University's 13th annual Dance Marathon raise more than $125,000 for the Children's Miracle Network at Toledo's St. Vincent Mercy Children's Hospital.

The 32-hour marathon ran from 10 a.m. March 29 until 6 p.m. March 30, when this year's dollar figure of $125,112 was announced in BGSU's Student Recreation Center. But the amount will actually continue to increase with the addition of proceeds from a silent auction and further donations, said Aysen Ulupinar of the Dance Marathon steering committee.

Of the dancers, 176 were students, joined by 29 alumni and 28 faculty and staff members. Another 123 students served as “moralers” during the marathon, and 75 bicyclists made the 180-mile “Bike for Tikes” from Cincinnati to Bowling Green as a related fund-raiser. Together, their efforts helped push the 13-year total generated by the student-run philanthropy past the $1.9 million mark.
