GLIPA celebrates 55 years of journalism workshops
BOWLING GREEN, O.—Bowling Green State University's School of Communication Studies invites junior and senior high schools to participate in a day of journalistic investigation and discovery during the 55th annual Great Lakes Interscholastic Press Association (GLIPA) workshop on Oct. 3.
Workshop topics will comprise broadcast journalism, yearbooks and newspapers.
Students and advisers are invited to attend sessions throughout the day that will provide them with hands-on experience, constructive competitions and the opportunity to listen to award-winning speakers.
A free mini-critique is available for advisers to obtain opinions and evaluations of their school's publication. Advisers can network with peers from Ohio and Michigan and will be given an opportunity to ask for suggestions or find a mentor. School staffs and advisers are also encouraged to bring copies of their publications to exchange with others.
In past years, between 400 and 600 students and advisers have attended the workshop, said Linda Glomski, coordinator for GLIPA.
Doors open at 8 a.m., and the conference concludes at 1:30 p.m. Events take place at the Bowen-Thompson Student Union and nearby campus buildings.
Registration is due Sept. 26.
Groups with 20 or more paid registrants receive a $1 discount per person. Groups may register at the door but an additional $2 charge will be applied per person.
