Gabe's story is one of constant growth and a commitment to personal values. A native of Montague, Michigan, Gabe earned his Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and worked in the insurance industry before completing his Master's in Student Affairs Administration. He supported nontraditional and military students at BGSU before transitioning to the Life Design team in Fall 2020, where he now serves as the Assistant Director of the Radbill Center. In his work with students, Gabe has found a career path he is passionate about, and he is pursuing his Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration at BGSU. Since returning to school himself, Gabe has gained a renewed sense of appreciation and camaraderie with the students he serves.
Gabe's favorite Life Design tool to use with students is the Maker Mix, which teaches students to consider how money, impact, and expression weigh into their future plans. He understands that each student has a unique set of values, and he wants to help them find a way to make both money and meaning while still leaving plenty of room for family, friends, and fun. As a father of two who values family (and knows how to tell a Dad joke or two), Gabe is passionate about helping others to find the right balance between work and their other priorities. In his work with students, Gabe often uses sports and movie metaphors to illustrate the many visions that students can create for their lives.
Gabe's focus is to help each student find their way through skill development, connecting them to relevant experiences, and encouraging them to build a campus network. He challenges students to rethink their notions of failure and success and to see everything as a learning experience. Gabe wants students to realize that a person can only make decisions with the information they have at the time. Therefore, as students learn more and experience more, their goals and life path will evolve in the way that it was meant to. Gabe believes that the right resources will come along at the right time for every person, and he hopes to be an influential part of each of his students' support team.
