Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the Master's degree, students in the Applied Geospatial Sciences program are expected to be able to:

• Demonstrate the ability to explain fundamental geospatial concepts and theory for addressing important societal issues.
• Demonstrate the ability to apply geospatial data and tools across multiple disciplines.
• Demonstrate the ability to explain in-depth ideas and concepts in area of specialization.
• Plan I: Demonstrate the ability to design and conduct an original research project, with appropriate use of scientific methods, robust sampling, and analytical methodologies.
• Plan I: Demonstrate the ability to defend and communicate the results and interpretations of an original research project.

Prerequisites to Graduate Work
The MS in Applied Geospatial Sciences and Certificate in Geospatial Technology programs welcome students with undergraduate degrees in the natural sciences, social sciences, or business who have an interest in the application of geospatial tools in their field. While not a prerequisite, some coursework or experience in computer programming, statistics, and/or quantitative analysis is desirable.

Admission Procedure
Applicants seeking admission to the graduate programs in the School of Earth, Environment and Society should follow the instructions outlined in the Graduate Admission webpage.  

Degree Requirements
MS Applied Geospatial Science (Plans I & II). Students must select a plan by the end of their first semester in residence.  After this time, changing plans will be allowed only with approval of the SEES Graduate Faculty.

MS Applied Geospatial Science Plan I (thesis option) are required to complete:

1. An approved degree program of courses (6 hours Geospatial Core Courses, 12 hours Geospatial Core Electives, 6 hours approved electives)
   
2. An acceptable thesis proposal including its successful oral defense before the thesis committee no later than the end of the second semester of full-time residence; and
3. An acceptable thesis, including its successful oral defense before the thesis committee.

MS Applied Geospatial Science Plan II (non-thesis option) are required to complete:

1. An approved degree program of courses (6 hours Geospatial Core Courses, 12 hours Geospatial Core Electives, 9 hours approved electives)
   
2. A research project consisting of an in-depth study of interest in geospatial science or an internship consisting of an experience that utilizes geospatial tools, the results of which will be presented orally; and
3. A comprehensive exam in the final semester.

Certificate in Geospatial Technology

   1. 15 hours of approved coursework
