Economics Scholarships
Application process is active from October 1 through March 1 annually.
Alumni-Faculty Scholarship
Awarded to an Economics major or minor on the basis of an essay contest; must also have completed at least nine hours of economics coursework (including Principles of Economics courses) and have a 3.0 GPA in economics courses as of January 1; can also be nominated for this scholarship by an economics professor. Monetary award is approx. $800. Click here for essay instructions.
Benedict Undergraduate Research Scholarship
Awarded to an undergraduate student majoring in any Economics degree or Economics specialization at BGSU, has a minimum GPA of 3.0, and junior standing. Preference will be given to students who have completed a research project that analyzes economics or social policy and that employs economic or statistical analysis. Students conducting an active research project will also be considered. Monetary award is $1000 but may vary depending on funds available.
Economics Advisory Board Scholarship
Awarded to an undergraduate student majoring in any Economics degree or Economics specialization at BGSU and has a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to Freshman or Sophomore students, and students who demonstrate financial need, based on the FAFSA. Monetary award is $1000 but may vary depending on funds available.
The Navin Scholarship for Public Sector Economics
Awarded to a rising senior majoring in Economics and is based on demonstration of interest in public sector economics. No application necessary. Monetary award is approximately $800.
Paul Haas Book Award
Awarded to an undergraduate student majoring or minoring in Economics or Education Integrated Social Studies with at least two Economics courses; must also demonstrate participation in community service activities, preferably ones that provide service to others; must have a minimum of junior standing and maintain at least a 3.0 GPA overall and in economics courses.
Students shall demonstrate proof of the eligibility criteria by providing a statement, consisting of one or two paragraphs, explaining their participation in and reasons for being involved with a volunteer organization together with the name of the organization and an immediate supervisor’s name and contact number. Please enter the statement in the selection criteria field when filling out the electronic scholarship application. Monetary award starts at $500.
The Amena Khatun Economics Scholarship
Eligibility for this scholarship is limited to students that: 1) Are an undergraduate student enrolled at BGSU with a declared major in economics in the College of Business or the College of Arts and Sciences or a specialization offered by the Economics Department in the College of Business. 2) Have taken at least three economics courses and have achieved at least a 3.3 overall GPA on a 4.0 scale. 3) Has demonstrated an interest in economics by their interaction with faculty, presenting papers at conferences, and/or their participation in the Economics Club. 4) Students shall demonstrate proof of the eligibility criteria by providing a statement, no more than two pages (double-spaced), explaining their interest in economics based on statement #3 above. Please enter the statement in the selection criteria field when filling out the electronic scholarship application. Monetary award is approximately $1000.
The John Hoag Economics Scholarship
Awarded to a rising senior with a declared major or specialization in economics; are preferred to have completed at least 12 hours of economics coursework, although students with nine hours or more will be considered; must demonstrate academic excellence as an outstanding student; must demonstrate interest in economics through activities such as, but not limited to: participation in research projects with faculty members, participation in economics club and student organizations, or presentation of research. No application necessary. Monetary award is approximately $1000.
The Dolores Reynolds Book Scholarship
The Vimala Krishnan Book Scholarship
Book scholarships are awarded to the two Economics majors with the highest GPA and who have completed at least twelve hours of Economics course work. No application necessary. Monetary award starts at $150.
