August 2022 Dean’s Message

Dear Insiders,

As you know, I joined the Schmidthorst College of Business on June 21, 2022. I am excited to be part of such an amazing organization that believes in serving the public good. Over the past few weeks, I have had the pleasure of being welcomed by many of you through emails, phone conversations, short visits or over social media. Your kind words, encouragement and enthusiasm have inspired me further to reach for lofty goals as we collaborate to create the best learning environment for our students and support faculty in extending the reach of their innovative research.

I would like to take this opportunity to share a little about myself and my family so we can continue to get to know each other better. For me, the move to Bowling Green is taking me closer to my family as I grew up in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Some of you met my son, Kieran, last spring during E-Week. He will be attending classes at BGSU this fall as part of the College Credit Plus high school program, while my two younger children will attend BG Middle School in grades 6 and 8, respectively. For those of you who live in the area, I will see you around town, particularly at cross-country events as the older two sons compete in the sport. I will also be traveling on weekends with my daughter throughout Michigan and the Midwest as part of the pre-ECNL soccer team for the Michigan Hawks (an elite girls national-level soccer program). Given my passion for athletics, it will be no surprise that I am a strong supporter of student-athletes as I know the challenges they must overcome and the dedication they must have to both their academics as well as athletics. I hope to see many of you cheering on our Schmidthorst College of Business student-athletes throughout the year!

In this newsletter, I will share with you a small selection of research accomplishments, graduation milestones for some of our graduate programs, a snapshot of our fall incoming cohorts and an update on some new initiatives to support student success. As always, we look forward to hearing your feedback on ideas and how we can engage to further enhance the learning experience and our impact on our community. Thank you for your continued support, and I can't wait to see you at one of our many fall events!
