Associate Dean Awarded Inaugural Chan Hahn Professorship in Supply Chain Management

Janet Hartley, Ph.D., professor and associate dean of Schmidthorst Graduate Programs, Faculty Affairs, Budgeting and Research, was awarded the first Chan Hahn Professorship in Supply Chain Management. This endowed professorship was created to honor Dr. Chan Hahn, a well-respected advisor, career coach and father figure to a generation of BGSU's supply chain and procurement operations students. Dr. Hahn’s vision and hard work crafted the College of Business's Supply Chain Management program into what it is today.
Dr. Hartley credits Dr. Hahn with enhancing her career in higher education.
“I am truly honored to be selected to receive the Chan Hahn Professorship. As a role model and mentor, Dr. Hahn positively impacted my academic career," said Dr. Hartley. "He inspired me with his commitment to student success, high-quality research, service to the institution and the profession, and engagement with the business community.”
Dr. Hartley earned her master's and doctorate in business administration from the University of Cincinnati and her bachelor's in chemical engineering from the Missouri Institute of Science and Technology. Dr. Hartley has published 40 articles in prestigious journals and serves as an Associate Editor for five academic journals. She is the author of "Supply Management Core" in the Institute for Supply Management Professional Series and is the co-author of "Managing Operations Across the Supply Chain." Her research interests include the adoption of digital technology in the supply chain, customer-supplier collaboration, supply chain risk management, and supply chain sustainability. Dr. Hartley served as the President of the Decision Sciences Institute from 2019 to 2020.
More about Dr. Chan Hahn
Dr. Chan Hahn joined the BGSU College of Business faculty in 1970 as an assistant professor in management. He came to BGSU just after earning his Ph.D. in business administration from The Ohio State University that same year. During his time at BGSU, he was the chair of the Management Department from 1973 to 1986 and again from 1995 to 2000.
Dr. Hahn is a renowned national and international expert in his field. During his career, he authored more than 80 publications in a variety of national and international journals, many of which he was invited lecture on at institutions around the world. Dr. Hahn was a member of various focus committees on-campus, professional organizations off-campus and served in leadership positions for many academic publication groups and journals. After Dr. Hahn’s retirement in 2000, he was granted emeritus status at BGSU.
