Winners of the BGSU Sales Competition Announced
Written by Bailey Smith, Schmidthorst College of Business Communication Intern
Each year students compete for the top two coveted spots in the BGSU Sales Competition. The first and second place finishers will compete at the National Collegiate Sales Competition (NSCS) in the spring. The third place finisher is an alternate. This was the first year the BGSU Sales Competition was held virtually.
Congratulations to the following students:
1st place - Sophia Barnes
2nd place - Tyler Newton
3rd place - Jeremy Kovacs
Round 1 of the competition began in September with students delivering an elevator pitch about who they are and why they are a great candidate for the final round. Ten finalists advanced to round 2, where each finalists performed a 15-minute role play involving the selling of “Krispy Krunch Chicken” to someone posing as a Marathon convenience store owner. The entire sales competition took place over Zoom, including the awards ceremony.
In addition to the opportunity to compete at the national level, Barnes earned a $1,000 prize, Newton won $500, and Kovacs received $250.
Marketing Associate Professor, Greg Rich, oversees the sales program and organizes the sales competition. Davida Frick, who has over twenty years of sales and sales management experience, has been a volunteer coach for BGSU sales students competing in regional competitions. She will be working with Dr. Rich to prepare the team for the upcoming national competition.
“Congratulations to our top three finalists,” remarked Ray Braun ’80, Dean of the Schmidthorst College of Business. “We are very proud and look forward to you representing BGSU at the national competition.”
