Dean's Message August 2015
Welcome to the start of another academic year! We welcomed both new and returning students to campus. Freshmen attended Opening Day activities and took a class photo sporting their new Class of 2019 t-shirts! These new Falcons are excited to join us as we continue going beyond business as usual.
What differentiates our business program from the traditional business programs? Our focus is to engage students through a hands-on, experiential learning curriculum through a unique series of Applied Business Experience lab courses making us one of the only undergraduate programs in the country to offer this type of curriculum.
We offer co-curricular activities that help our students develop and sharpen essential business skills such as critical thinking, communication, presentation, collaboration and teamwork. Students have the opportunity to participate in career workshops, golf lessons, networking sessions and workshops teaching skills such as how to order wine at a business dinner and how to dress for success.
We are building a culture of engagement in the College and our students have many opportunities to engage with faculty, alumni, and peers through class dinners, Dean’s Picnic on the Green, Dean’s Tailgate, our CBA Rewards Point Program and our themed community, The Business District, where students live together in one of our residence halls.
Students have an advantage in finding internships and jobs through our dedicated Business Career Accelerator office in the College of Business Administration Building. More than 88 percent of our students have jobs or are interviewing at graduation. The average starting salary for our business graduates is $53,000, which is higher than the national average.
Our faculty consists of world-renowned and influential scholars that are sought out by other educators around the globe for their expertise. For instance, Dr. Arthur Yeh, chair of our applied statistics and operations research department, was asked to assist Tianjin Polytechnic University to organize a business analytics symposium in China.
Mr. Kirk Kern, director of the BGSU Dallas-Hamilton Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and Dr. Gene Poor, Hamilton Endowed Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University are working with ten colleges and universities to beta test a licensing program for The Hatch™ because of the overwhelming interest of other institutions to create a similar entrepreneurial program at their institution.
As we kick off another academic year, we are excited to continue offering our students and alumni the chance to go beyond business as usual. We invite all of our students, past and present, to attend our events and participate in College activities this year! You can learn more about the events on the College of Business homepage. Please stay connected!
