New Theme Community Created for Business Students
Coming to college can be a stressful time by leaving friends and family behind and finding new friends that have similar interests. BGSU has established a number of Learning Communities in residence halls to help in the transition and build a sense of “community” amongst the residents. Now freshmen and sophomores who are interested in studying business have the opportunity to live with other business students in a new theme community called The Business District.
This new community is located in Kreischer Darrow Hall and 80 freshmen and sophomores will have the chance to receive academic support, career exploration, and integrated social experiences. Students can develop lifelong friendships with fellow business students inside and outside the classroom as soon as they arrive on campus. They can study together and participate in extracurricular activities focused on business topics.
Dr. Zubair Mohamed, associate dean of the College, states this new residential living space provides students with a lot of benefits. “Living in the Business District is a great way to develop skills that are critical for your future success in business careers – teamwork, leadership, mentoring, effective communication, goal oriented, and ability to cultivate and manage relationships.”
The College of Business recruitment coordinator, Susan Kosakowski, is excited about the new residential living area. “College life is ever so different from high school – new classes, new living arrangements, new friends! Being a part of the Business District is one way to make new friends who are all studying business as well as immediately connecting with all the happenings in the College! What a great opportunity for our new freshman class!!”
Students who are interested in taking advantage of this great opportunity can indicate it on their housing selection through MyBGSU portal, the University’s web-based campus software system.
