BGSU Finance Team Finishes Third in National Competition
BGSU has another team of students that finished among the top colleges and universities. Business students Alex Batt and James Knippen represented BGSU in the Foundation for Financial Service Professionals (FSP) 2015 Industry Issues Competition. The competition offers colleges and universities the chance to explore important hot topics in the financial services profession. The critical issue of this year’s competition was “Career Evolution…How Did You Begin, Where Are You Now, and Where Do You Expect to Wind Up?” The finalists were selected from written submissions exploring three professional career paths and the top teams presented at the FSP Annual Conference in Phoenix, Arizona.
J. Michael Galbraith is a BGSU faculty member that teaches Personal Financial Planning (FIN 4130), and served as the team’s advisor. He had high praise for the BGSU students’ performance at the competition. “In reaching the finals, Alex and James had competed against a considerable number of business school candidates. Competition among the finalists was fierce and the FSP judges had a very difficult task in ranking them. Alex and James were, and continue to be, great ambassadors for BGSU. What a great honor for them, the Department of Finance, the College of Business, and for Bowling Green State University.”
With their third place finish, the students earned $2,000 in scholarship funds.
This has not been the only top finish for BGSU student teams. Over the past year BGSU teams have achieved top finishes in national and global competitions. Last fall, a team of students placed third in the world for the International Institute for Business Development Case Competition. Last spring, a team of finance students placed third in the nation at the International Association of Registered Financial Consultants National Plan Competition, and BGSU students captured first place at the National Service Marketing Competition. A team of supply chain students this month advanced to the semifinal round of the 2015 APICS-Mid-Atlantic District Student Case Competition.
The tradition of high student achievement at BGSU continues.
