Community Report

Dear Community Members,

The Fraternity and Sorority Life Team is excited to provide you the Fall 2020 Community Report. As a community, it is essential to celebrate our chapters' achievements and recognize the impact the pandemic had on our community.

As members created a new normal, they engaged in different modes of learning, provided leadership, and gave back to the local community in meaningful ways. It was a challenging time, but the Fraternity and Sorority Life Community members remained steadfast to their values and shared purpose.

Highlights from this semester include:

  • Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was welcomed back to campus.
  • Theta Chi officially charted in October.
  • A pilot group of academically at-risk members participated in a Life Design Academic Achievement program. 86% of the students who participated saw an increase in their term GPA.
  • The Fraternity and Sorority Life Community addressed food insecurity and reading literacy through the #GreeksGive initiative. The community:
    • Raised enough money to provide 192 local children with a food voucher to Porkbelly BBQ in Bowling Green, OH.
    • Donated 1,156 food items to the grab and go food pantry
    • Donated 500 children books to be given to local children

The numbers reflected in this report cannot be compared to previous years because we recognize that the Fall 2020 semester was not like others. We are proud of the BGSU Fraternity and Sorority Community and the commitment to re-frame goals, provide support, and pause to celebrate achievements during this challenging time.

We look forward to the continued success of the Fraternity and Sorority Life Community.

Personal Responsibility

2020 FSL chapter Compliance is determined by the Fraternal Leadership Achievement Program (FLAP). chapters are expected to meet all administrative checkpoints to remain in compliance with the fraternity and sorority life program.

As a result of the ongoing covid-19 pandemic, fraternity and sorority life has taken into account
those requirements of FLAP that cannot be reasonably met or adapted and waived certain
requirements from chapters' responsibility for the 2020 cycle. all other requirements stood as
written in the flap guide.

An organization can receive the following standings;

  • Compliant: chapter has completed FLAP initiative at 100%
  • Compliant-Watch: Chapter has completed some to most of the flap initiative (51-99%) and will spend one year on a watch status for the areas which they did not complete
  • Non-Compliant-Watch: Chapter has not completed some to most of the flap initiative (50% or less) and will spend one year on a watch status for the areas which they did not complete
    • This status has been abridged to allow those chapters who did complete the majority of academic excellence and the entirety of administration & operations to be placed at a watch rather than a warning status for the next year, as well as forego a social probation for the next year
  • Non-Compliant-Warning: Chapter has not completed the flap initiative (50% or less) and will spend one academic year on a warning status for the areas which they did not complete;
    • This status is applied automatically to those chapters who did not complete the administration & operations and academic excellence portions of flap
  • Academic: the organization is on an academic watch based on their chapter GPA of under 2.50 term gpa
  • Conduct: the organization was found responsible of a BGSU Conduct Violation
  • Probation: the organization is on probation for the next academic semester or year
  • Suspension: the organization is suspended from the BGSU campus

The fall 2020 University conduct report is determined by the number of conduct cases where the organization has been found responsible by the university. If the case was referred to a council
standards board or to the assigned professional staff advisor to monitor, it is not denoted in the number of incidents reported under "Personal responsibility."
