Happy New Year Falcons!
Bob Moosbrugger gives an end of the year update on what Falcon student-athletes have accomplished as well as the amazing things to look forward to in the 2021 seasons.
Thank you for all of your support during 2020. A year that we will not forget! While we faced all sorts of challenges throughout 2020, we came up with a plan for our student-athletes and asked them to stay positive, stay focused and do their best. I am so pleased to announce these Fall 2020 academic stats:
- 154 student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 semester GPA
- 53% over a 3.5 semester GPA
- 76% over a 3.0 semester GPA
- 3.42 cumulative GPA for all 400+ student-athletes
With a new hybrid model for in-person and virtual learning, our student-athletes took on the challenge and excelled. As we discuss, “Win it RIGHT” in the classroom, the community and competition. Congratulations to our student-athletes and all those that support their academic endeavors, especially our Student-Athlete Academic Services staff.
I hope you enjoy this edition of the RollAlong! magazine as we go behind the scenes during our return to sports amid a worldwide pandemic. Many folks assisted throughout the process. We asked our staff to remain positive, to innovate and be nimble. I am thankful for a staff that accepted those challenges.
Winter sports are underway for what should be exciting seasons. Our nationally ranked Hockey program continues to compete at a high level. Men’s Basketball is on a mission to break an ominous streak and return to NCAA postseason play. Coach Robyn Fralick has the Women’s Basketball team believing in themselves, and with the addition of talented student-athletes we are seeing great progress. Indoor Track and Field, Gymnastics and Swimming and Diving start in the early part of 2021 and we are excited to see what the seasons hold for them.
2021 will continue to be challenging for us because of the financial crisis caused by the global pandemic. We made difficult decisions furloughing employees throughout the fall semester. Our staff understood the decision as it saved nearly 10 positions in our department. We look to brighter days for our employees who work hard regardless of furloughs because they know the student-athlete experience is paramount to what we do.
Your support of the Falcon Club is absolutely meaningful. During these times, it is truly life changing for both student-athletes and staff. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Let’s have a great 2021 together!
Go Falcons, Ay Ziggy!
