Provost Update - September 2024

I hope your fall semester is off to a good start.

First, I want to extend my congratulations to the recipients of the Shanklin AI Innovation Award, which was created to encourage, recognize and support AI innovation in teaching and learning at BGSU. The list of awardees and their project titles can be found on our Office of the Provost landing page. Please also plan to attend a workshop and keynote address by AI expert Darren Pulsipher, who will be on campus Oct. 29, 2024. More details about his visit will be available soon.

I also want to thank each of you for your continued efforts in supporting the success of our students, which contributed to a record-high first-year retention rate of 81.6% for the Fall 2023 cohort. As a result of this increase in retention, 142 additional students have returned for their second year and will benefit from the time they will spend with you and your colleagues in academic and co-curricular spaces across the University.

Finally, please join me in congratulating Dr. Simon Morgan-Russell, who has been reappointed as dean of the Honors College. Under Dean Morgan-Russell’s leadership, the college has seen significant growth in enrollment and recently completed a successful NCHC program review. We are grateful for his continued leadership and contributions to our campus.

Thank you again for all you did to support our students as they returned to campus or joined us for the first time. I am grateful for your continued commitment to the BGSU community.
