Paid personal leave
October 4, 2016
Dear BGSU Faculty Colleagues:
In this eleventh communication on implementing our new collective bargaining agreement, we wanted to make you aware that bargaining unit faculty members (BUFM) may now use paid personal leave to cover absences such as mandatory court appearances, legal or business matters, and family emergencies. This allows BUFM to miss scheduled activities due to extenuating circumstances without going into an unpaid status.
As described in Article 21, Section 8.7, faculty members may ask to convert accrued sick leave to paid personal leave by submitting a request in advance of the event to their Chair/Director for approval. If approved, faculty members would then document their use of paid personal leave in their monthly reporting of leave use by using the drop-down option “paid personal leave” in the time and labor leave-reporting system. Any reported and approved paid personal leave will automatically be deducted from sick leave accrual.
This joint communication will be archived on the Provost website.
Best wishes for a productive academic year.
