Election of RTP policy for Faculty Review Decisions
August 16, 2016
Dear BGSU Faculty Colleagues:
In this ninth communication on implementing our new collective bargaining agreement, we wanted to make you aware of the options available to bargaining unit faculty members when their academic unit’s Reappointment, Tenure, and Promotion (RTP) policy is revised.
The collective bargaining agreement continues to provide a process for revising RTP policies with the concurrence of the chair/director, Dean, and Provost. In addition, the new contract specifies a clear process by which NTTF and TTF members may elect to be evaluated under the “old” RTP policy or the recently approved “new” RTP policy. Article 14 (Appointment, Reappointment, Tenure, and Promotion) clarifies the options available when a policy change impacts NTTF reappointment (Section 5.2.2.3), NTTF promotion (Section 5.4.2.3), TTF reappointment (Section 6.2.2.3), and TTF promotion (Section 6.4.3.1). (Note that the tenure recommendations are closely linked with the promotion process for TTF). Generally, the “new” RTP policy criteria cannot be applied retroactively on bargaining unit faculty members unless requested by the faculty member prior to the initiation of the faculty review process. Please refer to the collective bargaining agreement for more specific information (e.g., deadline for election of RTP policy for associate professors who intend to apply for promotion to professor).
All of the joint communications have been archived on the Provost website.
Sincerely,
Rodney K. Rogers, Ph.D.
