Annual Common Review Process and Impact on Merit
Joint Communication No. 13
November 29, 2016
Dear BGSU Faculty Colleagues,
We want to alert you to some important details related to the annual "common review" process, specifically regarding merit.
First, we are returning to a three-year rolling average for merit. Second, we are transitioning from basing merit on a calendar year to basing it on the academic year (Fall, Spring, Summer) to streamline the faculty review process.
Your merit dossier is due by January 31, 2017 (or an earlier date if required by your unit or college). Your dossier should include performance during the 2016 calendar year (Spring 2016, Summer 2016, and Fall 2016). Your final merit rating will be the average of the 2014, 2015, and 2016 calendar years.
In the fall semester of 2017, we will begin using the academic year as the period of merit performance. As shown in the table below, there will be an overlap of performance periods during the first year of this transition (see red text). Therefore, you should carefully track the Fall 2016 activities on your upcoming merit dossier because you will need to include this same information in your dossier the following year.
This joint communication will be archived on the Provost website.
Best wishes as you finish the semester,
Rodney K. Rogers, Ph.D.
Provost and Senior Vice President
David J. Jackson, Ph.D.
President, BGSU Faculty Association
