Alltech Young Scientist

To participate, students must write a scientific paper based on agricultural research in the areas of plant or animal technology. The global undergraduate winner receives $5,000 and the global graduate winner receives $10,000. 

Alpha Kappa Alpha Education Advancement Foundation Scholarship

The Educational Advancement Foundation provides scholarships based on merit and financial need for deserving undergraduates.

Association of Food and Drug Officials Scholarships

The AFDO awards students who have demonstrated a desire to serve in a career of research, regulatory work, quality control, or teaching in an area related to foods, drugs, or consumer product safety. 

Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Scholarship

The AORN Foundation awards scholarships to students who are pursuing a career in perioperative nursing. 

Betty Barrick Non-Traditional Student Scholarship

The Kentucky Association of Conservation Districts Auxiliary sponsors a $1,000 scholarship for students who are least 25 years old and are in agriculture or related fields of natural resources conservation. Applications should be sent to the local conservation district. 

Breakthrough Summer Teaching Internships

The Breakthrough Collaborative provides college students the opportunity to teach high performing middle school students at various locations throughout the U.S. The internship is unpaid but provides for living expenses. 

Carnegie Endowment for International Peace

Carnegie Junior Fellows work as research assistants for one year conducting research for books, co-authoring papers, participating in meetings, and organizing briefings. Students with significant coursework in International Affairs, Political Science, Economics, History, or languages such as Russian, or Chinese are encouraged to apply. 

Center for Strategic and International Studies Internships

CSIS offers full and part-time internships in the fall, spring, and summer for students interested in gaining practical experience in public policy. There are multiple deadlines. 

D.C. Internships

The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) sponsors institutes that offer classroom study, internships, and special events. Sophomores and juniors with relevant professional or volunteer experience are preferred. 

Davis-Putter Scholarship

The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund provides grants to students actively working for peace and justice. These need-based scholarships are awarded to those who are part of a progressive movement on the campus and in the community. 

Ertegun Graduate Scholarship Program in the Humanities

As Ertegun Scholars, the world's top graduate students in the humanities are brought together with one another and with Oxford's exceptional community of scholars in a unique setting that fosters dialogue across academic disciplines, across cultures and across generations. 

Explorers Club Youth Activity Fund

The Explorers Club offers grants to students conducting individual scientific or exploration research projects through their respective schools with a supervising instructor.

Gates Cambridge Scholarship

The Gates Cambridge Scholarships are awarded to outstanding applicants to pursue a postgraduate degree in any subject at the University of Cambridge. Applicants cannot be a citizen of the United Kingdom. 

Global Health Fellowship

The Medical Missionaries Global Health Fellowship offers recent college graduates, graduate students, or professionals interested in global health the opportunity to gain experience in health care delivery in a developing country.  Fellows spend one year in Thomassique, Haiti, working at St. Joseph’s Clinic. 

Google Journalism Fellowship

The Google Journalism Fellowship is aimed at undergraduate and graduate students of all disciplines interested in using technology to tell stories in new and dynamic ways. The Fellows will get the opportunity to spend the summer contributing to a variety of organizations -- from those that are steeped in investigative journalism to those working for press freedom around the world and from those forging new approaches to reporting to those that are helping the industry figure out its future in the digital age.

Herbert Scoville Peace and Security Fellowship

The Scoville Program offers students the opportunity to work in Washington D.C. for 6-9 months with nonprofit, and public interest groups addressing peace and security issues. Prior experience with public-interest activism or advocacy is desirable. 

Hertog Programs

The Hertog Foundation offers several highly competitive and selective educational programs for outstanding individuals who seek to influence the intellectual, civic, and political life of the United States. We offer programs in three main areas: Political Thought & Philosophy; War & Foreign Affairs; and Economics & Domestic Policy. Visit the website for more information.

Humanity in Action Fellowship

The HIA Fellowship brings international groups of students and recent graduates to explore national histories of discrimination and resistance. Students in all fields are welcome to apply, although an interest to pursue inquiry into minority and human rights issues is key. 

Leland International Hunger Fellows Program

The Mickey Leland International Hunger Fellows Program trains emerging leaders in the fight to end hunger worldwide. It is a two-year program that combines field and policy work. Applicants must be able to work in the United States. The Program accepts applicants every two years.

Leonard M. Rieser Fellowship

The Rieser Fellowships provide up to two successful applicants with a  one-time award of up to $4,000 to pursue projects that explore issues at the intersection of science, global security, and public policy, focusing on a significant aspect of nuclear security, climate stabilization, or biotechnology.

Math Research Experience for Undergraduates

The American Mathematical Society keeps a record of summer REUs in mathematics. Most deadlines fall in February to March.

Nancy Foster Scholarship Program

The Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program provides support for independent graduate-level studies in oceanography, marine biology, or maritime archaeology (including all science, engineering, social science and resource management of ocean and coastal areas), particularly by women and members of minority groups. 

National Institutes of Health Graduate Partnerships Program

The NIH Graduate Partnerships Program allows participants to research at the NIH and have the academic environment of a university. Students do not have to be enrolled in a graduate degree program at the time of application, but should intend to enroll and pursue a Ph.D. in the biomedical sciences.

NPR Kroc Fellowship

The NPR Kroc Fellowship awards students who aspire to work in public radio. Candidates should be close to completing an undergraduate or graduate degree at the time of application. 

Overseas Press Club Foundation Scholarships

The Overseas Press Club Foundation sponsors a scholarship for students interested in becoming foreign correspondents. The scholarship pays for travel and living expenses and provides an internship at foreign bureaus. Students in all fields are encouraged to apply, but must be interested in becoming a foreign correspondent.

Oxford Pershing Square Graduate Scholarship

The Pershing Square Foundation has endowed up to five scholarships per year, which support extraordinary individuals in developing and realising their potential as future global leaders by fully funding the MBA year of the Oxford 1+1 programme. In the 21st Century, Pershing Square Scholars will re-define what it means to be a transformative global leader. 

 

Public Policy & International Affairs (PPIA) Junior Summer Institute

The PPIA Fellowship is a seven-week summer program that focuses on preparing students for graduate programs in public and international affairs. Students must be a U.S. citizen in order to apply and should be committed to completing a Master's Degree in public/international affairs at a PPIA Consortium graduate school. 

Rotary Peace Fellowship

Rotary Peace Fellows are leaders promoting national and international cooperation, peace, and the successful resolution of conflict throughout their lives. Fellows can earn a master's degree in several fields or a professional development certificate in peace and conflict resolution. Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree and strong academic record and have a strong commitment to international understanding and peace. 

Samuel Huntington Public Service Award

The Award provides a $10,000 stipend for a graduating student to pursue one year of public service anywhere in the world.

Schwarzman Scholars

Undergraduates with an excellent academic record are encouraged to apply for the Schwarzman Scholars Program to attend Tsinghua University, one of China's leading universities, to complete a Master's degree in one of three disciplines: Public Policy, Economics and Business, International Studies. Applicants must be younger than 29 years of age and have an undergraduate degree before orientation begins. 

Stowers Scholars Program

The Stowers Summer Scholars Program provides a laboratory experience for students to work on an independent research project under the direction of a principal investigator. Students must have completed at least 60 hours of coursework by the start of the program. 

Teach for China

Teach for China participants commit two years to teaching a full course load of core subjects, that may include English, math, and science, in collaboration with local teachers. Benefits include a stipend, and living accommodations. Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree before the start of the program and speak fluent English. 

Washington Center Internships

The Washington Center offers a wide range of internships for students in Washington, D.C. and abroad. Internships are for academic credit and do not include a stipend. 

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Summer Student Fellowship

Fellows work on a research project under the supervision of a mentor in the ocean sciences or marine policy. Fellows receive housing and a stipend.
