Dear Alumni and Friends:

October is certainly one of the busiest times of the year here on campus. Everyone is studying hard for mid-terms, the fall sports are well under way and the leaves have turned.

One of the big events we host every year is the EXPO Job and Internship Fair. This year more than 1,000 students attended, and most heartening were the number of potential employers—many of whom are BGSU alumni! Thank you for turning to your alma mater for recruiting employees. Just two weeks ago, we welcomed back one of our most renowned alumnae, Eva Marie Saint, '46, '82 (Hon.). Eva Marie and her husband of more than 60 years, Jeffrey Hayden '91 (Hon.), were on hand for the dedication of a new theater named in her honor in The Wolfe Center for the Arts. It was a wonderful event, and cast members from two of our student productions—"The Seagull" and "Arabian Nights"—were thrilled to hear stories and advice from the couple. Ms. Saint was serenaded by members of the Delta Gamma sorority. She was a “DG” and credits her house parents with encouraging her to take a part in a BGSU production.

Many of you are associated with a chapter or a special interest alumni group—I just want to remind you that the BGSU Alumni Association is here to help you. If you are planning a gathering back on campus, or if you are interested in starting a new group, just let us know!

As always, I'm impressed by the accomplishments of our faculty. In addition to teaching, we have some fascinating research taking place with amazing implications. Just one example is how faculty and graduate students from several different disciplines are working together to develop an online resource to help researchers from around the world gain insights into RNA molecules.

I continue to be proud of our student-athletes. The NCAA announced Graduation Success Rates for student-athletes and BGSU was at 82 percent, ahead of the national average of 80 percent.

Also, congratulations to the BGSU volleyball team, which started conference play with eight straight wins and is currently in first place in the MAC! We are looking forward to watching the team close out the season strong and hopefully represent the University in the NCAA Tournament.
