Greetings:
BGSU had an exciting 2011 Homecoming, and I was pleased to welcome so many of you to campus. Among the events were 40th and 50th reunions. Thank you to class of 1961 and the class 1971 for participating and for your generous contributions to BGSU! The class of 1961 donated more than $460,000 (the second largest class gift in University history) and the class of 1971 contributed nearly $150,000.
With the approach of Veterans Day, I wanted to share some news about honoring our veterans and recognition of our service to veterans and active duty military personnel.
On Nov. 12, we’ll join Buckeye Boys State and the American Legion for a ceremony in Memorial Hall to update the plaque recognizing BGSU students who lost their lives in service to our country since the building’s original dedication in 1961. The names of 21 men will be added.
For the second year in a row, BGSU has been named a Military Friendly School by G.I. Jobs magazine. We’re extremely proud of all of our veterans and current members of the military and thank them for their service.
Late last month, the Ohio Board of Regents recognized our third Center of Excellence at Bowling Green State University - Developing Effective Businesses and Organizations.
Nationally ranked programs in industrial-organizational psychology, supply-chain management, and organizational development form the core of this center that concentrates on the human side of organizational performance.
Our College of Business has also been recognized in the 2012 edition of The Princeton Review’s “Best 294 Business Schools.” In addition, our graduate program in business scored second in Ohio in the areas of academic experience and admissions selectivity.
As always, it’s great to hear about your experiences at BGSU. We recently held a fair for students interested in participating in our study abroad program. Did you study abroad while at BGSU? How important do you think an international experience is for today’s students? Please take a moment to share your experience or thoughts on my Facebook page.
Sincerely,
Mary Ellen Mazey, Ph.D.
President
