Dear Alumni and Friends,
Our students are back on campus and everyone is planning for a very busy spring. Hard to believe it's 2013 already.
We hope to visit old friends, and meet new ones, at an event we are hosting in Florida—the Falcon Florida Getaway on Feb. 10 – 11. It starts with the Doyt Perry Classic 18-hole scramble at Naples Golf Club, with lots of activities for non-golfers as well. Following the classic, we’ll host the “Falcon Greats Reception” which will feature a live auction and a panel discussion with some of the greatest names in Falcon football history! The getaway wraps up with Alumni College, bringing together some of the University’s most accomplished faculty with Falcon graduates who are committed to lifelong learning. There’s still time to register. Call (888) 839-2586.
I know how much everyone likes reading about the success of our students and alumni. I think you’ll really enjoy the article about how two of our young alumni, Amber LeFever and Adam Soboleski, are shaking up the art world in Toledo, and an interview with scholarship recipient Summer Bell of Detroit.
Speaking of our students, they participated in some tremendous service projects on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. I’m so proud of how they give back to our community. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to learn what some of them gained from the experience.
The BGSU cheerleaders had a fantastic showing at the Universal Cheerleading Association College Cheerleading National Championship, coming in with an impressive second place nationally in their division, and first place in their division in the World University Championship. We are all proud of our team again bringing the national spotlight to BGSU!
February will also feature many exciting and worthwhile Arts events on campus. Duo pianists Anderson and Roe will perform in our highly successful Festival Series. Theatre & Film will present Abundance, and Tuesdays at Gish will continue to provide the public with free screenings of student and classic films. A complete calendar of University Arts events is available online.
On March 2, we’ll recognize outstanding alumni from each academic college at BGSU. Our alumni are doing great things, and this event provides the opportunity for us to recognize them for accomplishments and contributions to their professions. You can see the list of honorees, and learn more about the event here.
Our hockey team has created a lot of excitement lately, including a recent six-game unbeaten streak that included consecutive wins over Michigan, No. 5 Notre Dame and No. 10 Western Michigan. BGSU is serving as the host school for the NCAA Regionals on March 30-31 at the Huntington Center in Toledo. Tickets are on sale now through Ticketmaster or BGSUFalcons.com. Remember that championships begin with scholarships. Please consider supporting BGSU Athletics by joining the Falcon Club.
Throughout the spring semester, the BGSU Alumni Association will host a series of receptions across the country. I look forward to meeting alumni and friends in Dallas, Pittsburgh, Raleigh, San Diego and Seattle as well as various locations in Ohio. Watch for details, and I hope to see you soon!
