Do you have a passion for taking care of animals? Have you thought about becoming a veterinarian, technician, or zoo keeper? Are you wondering about what classes to take in high school or are you considering taking higher level classes like a college course? The BGSU Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science Camp is here to help students discover what it takes to work in fields related to animal science, medicine, and more!

Camp Details

  • Non-Residential Day Camp  
  • Eligibility: Rising 10th through 12th graders in fall 2025
  • Camp Dates: July 14 - 18, 2025 
  • Camp Times: 8:45 AM - 4:45 PM EST
  • Camp Cost: $550

  • Learn about special interest fields within veterinary medicine from working professionals
    • i.e. Large & Small Animal, Lab Animal, Industry, Research, Exotics & Wildlife,  
  • Discover what it takes to get in to Veterinary School from an Admissions Counselors 
    • Learn what you should be doing in H.S. and College to prepare   
  • Connect with Veterinarians at the Ohio Department of Agriculture & United States Department of Agriculture to learn how they work to keep the food supply safe
  • Meet U.S. Border Patrol Agents and their Beagle Brigade 
  • Go behind the scenes with local veterinarians to discover what a day in the life of a veterinarian is like. 

Labs & Activities 

  • Program Field Trips Include (subject to change due to speaker availability and inclement weather):
    • Toledo Zoo & Aquarium
    • Nature’s Nursery
    • Farm
    • Private Practice
  • Perform simulation diagnostic labs (i.e. Blood Draws, Suturing, Injections) 
  • Complete an animal science project 
  • Guided Dissection Lab 
  • Animal Handling & Physical Exams
  • Anatomy & Physiology Dissections
  • Learn from practicing veterinarians
  • Earn needed shadowing hours for the Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS)

Cost

In-Person Session: The cost of $550 dollars (camperships possible) covers the webinars, lectures, guest speakers and support for the full week, transportation and admission to our tours, lab materials and activities. Lunch and snacks will be provided.

Financial Assistance Application *Students must first apply too and be accepted before camperships are reviewed.

      • In prior years all In-person camp spots were filled following the early consideration deadline.

  • Applicants should send the following information to the person submitting their letter of reference for them to complete this portion of the application

  • Fully completed application and responses to short-answer questions

Acceptance and Deposit

Once accepted to reserve your seat in camp a $50 non-refundable deposit is due within 10 days of receiving your camp acceptance email. Participants who do not pay the deposit by the tenth day are removed and placed on the waitlist. 

Payment Due Dates

Forms will be collected via CampDocs. Information with a link to the site will be sent with your acceptance.

Camp Cancellation Policy

Refunds for canceled registrations will be issued to the individual or organization that made the original payment, according to the following schedule:

  • On or before May 1: A full refund, minus the non-refundable deposit, will be provided.
  • 21 or more days before the start of camp: A 75% refund, minus the non-refundable deposit, will be provided.
  • 14–20 days before the start of camp: A 50% refund, minus the non-refundable deposit, will be provided.
  • Less than 14 days before the start of camp: No refund will be provided.

Additional Notes:

  • No refunds will be given for "no-shows."
  • Participants dismissed from camp for disciplinary reasons are not eligible for any refund.

Get ready to explore the world of animal science and veterinary medicine. During this 5 day virtual academy you will meet veterinarians across a variety of specialties, such as anesthesiologist, lab-animal, small & large animal and Equine Veterinarians. You’ll have an opportunity to build your skills with asynchronous animal science lessons including terminology and more. Additionally, you may choose to receive a camp lab crate filled with materials to conduct at home labs such as suturing, animal holding labs and dissection kits.

  • Perform simulation diagnostic labs (i.e. Suturing, Urinalysis)   
  • Dissections and much more! 

Eligibility

Students who will be entering 9th - 12th grade in fall of 2025 and 2025 HS Graduates. Student's attending the in-person session may also attend the virtual program as speakers and sessions are different. 

Cost

The cost of $225 dollars covers the webinars, lectures, guest speakers and support for the full week, camp t-shirt, and a crate filled with a veterinary workbook as wel as all materials needed to complete at home labs and activities. Students can choose to attend just the webinar series for only $50. 

Camp Registration Dates & Deadlines  

  • Early Registration Deadline: March 2nd 
    • Registration occurs on a rolling basis. Campers who complete payment in full by March 2nd will receive a complimentary BGSU Momentum Metro Crossbody Bag with their kit. This incentive does not imply to webinar only students. 
  • General Deadline: April 25th

Payment Due Dates

  • Registration is a rolling process until all spots are filled. Students who register have 10 days to complete the camp deposit securing their spot. Campers who pay in full for the webinar and camp crate by March 2 will also receive a complimentary camp bookbag.
  • Please contact the office to request a payment plan if needed. Final payments on payment plans are due May 1. 

CampDoc and Permission Forms 

BGSU Summer Camps uses a system called CampDocs to collect the necesary forms and permissions for campers to be able to fully participate in the program. A CampDoc Invitation  e-mail will be sent in May to complete. 

Virtual Camp Forms and Permissions that will be collected:

  • BGSU Waiver
  • Media Release
  • Online Policy and Camp Rules
  • Permission to send camp specific materials through the mail (i.e. dissection kits, lab chemicals etc)

ATTENTION!! Parents/Guardians must first grant permission through CampDocs before materials and dissection kits can be mailed.
