BGSU empowers transfer students to connect and engage with its learning community
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – As the No. 1 public university in Ohio for student experience and opportunities, Bowling Green State University empowers all students to embrace engaged learning experiences while benefiting from the opportunities a comprehensive research university provides.
During National Transfer Student Week from Oct. 21 to 25, the BGSU Office of Orientation and Transitions is hosting a variety of events and programming designed for transfer students to connect and explore the learning community's comprehensive academic, career and engagement resources.
Some of the week's signature events include:
Transfer student T-shirt swap
On Tuesday, Oct. 22, transfer students are invited to visit Falcon Outfitters between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to exchange a T-shirt or other item from their previous college or university for a free BGSU T-shirt courtesy of BGSU Athletics.
Transfer student meet-up in the Rad
The BGSU Transfer Student Association will host an evening of games and activities for transfer students on Tuesday, Oct. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Radbill Center for College and Life Design, home to the University's one-of-a-kind Life Design program.
Transfer student open house at the Hub
Providing comprehensive student and alumni career services, the Kuhlin Hub for Career Design and Connections will hold an open house for transfer students on Wednesday, Oct. 23, from 10 a.m. to noon to meet with career design coaches and leverage internship and employment opportunities.
“We know that the transfer experience is different for everyone,” said Holly Metzger, coordinator of orientation and transitions. “Our goal is to meet each student where they are by offering support and connection to our campus, providing them with essential resources and helping them feel empowered as they begin the next step in their educational journey at BGSU.”
To promote community building and connections, the Office of Orientation and Transitions holds transfer-specific orientations for incoming students. During the events, current BGSU transfer students sit on panels to answer questions and offer advice to incoming students.
“It is a great experience to share what we’ve learned with fellow transfer students,” current transfer student Everett Weaver said. “It’s just another example of BGSU finding new ways to ensure students feel welcome the minute they arrive on campus.”
The Transfer Student Association – one of nearly 400 student organizations at BGSU – further complements those efforts by providing students with additional opportunities to deepen their sense of belonging and connection to the University.
“Our goal is to build a community,” said Weaver, president of the Transfer Student Association. “Having a support network has been so important for my educational journey. I want to be a part of something that ensures transfer students feel welcome and connected to our University.”
BGSU is currently accepting applications for Spring 2025 and Fall 2025 semesters.
