"Evil Dead The Musical" taking stage at BGSU
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Bowling Green State University Department of Theatre and Film closes its 2023-24 season with "Evil Dead The Musical," with story and lyrics by George Reinblatt and music by Frank Cipolla, Christopher Bond, Melissa Morris, and George Reinblatt. "Evil Dead The Musical" will be performed April 13-16 in the Thomas B. and Kathleen M. Donnell Theatre at the Wolfe Center for the Arts on the campus of BGSU.
"Evil Dead The Musical" follows a group of five college students who find themselves lost in a cabin in the woods. Ash, who works at “S-Mart;” his girlfriend, Linda; his sister, Cheryl; his best friend, Scott; and Shelly, whom Scott picked up from a bar just days prior, find themselves face-to-face with demons and evil forces summoned from the Necronomicon, or the Book of the Dead. As the show progresses, each character is captured by these demonic forces and turns on each other until Ash, with the aid of Annie, the daughter of the owner of the cabin, is left to destroy the demons and save the world.
BGSU Department of Theatre and Film faculty and staff members on the artistic and production team include director Jonathan Chambers; scenic designer and props designer Kelly Mangan; costume designer Margaret McCubbin; lighting designer Steve Boone; sound designer Jason Walton; master electrician Jim Dachik; intimacy director Sara Lipinski Chambers; technical director Daniel S. Mangan; musical director Steven Naylor; and costumer Laurel Daman.
BGSU graduate and undergraduate students as well as recent alumni also serve on the production team. Victoria Norland is the assistant director; Rowan Rozzi is the stage manager, assisted by Abigail Hart and Hailey Wright; Timothy M. Frost is the choreographer and fight director; and Jamie Stopczynski is the production’s dance captain.
The cast of "Evil Dead The Musical" includes Logan May as Ash and Isabelle Grima as his girlfriend, Linda; Piper Nelson as Cheryl; Braden Evans as Scott; and Grace Whetstone as Shelly/Annie; Justin Andrews as Jake; Dylan Haywood as Ed, Annie’s fiancé, and the voice of the Moose; and Jamie Stopczynski as Fake Shemp.
Performances of "Evil Dead The Musical" are April 13-15 at 8 p.m. and April 15-16 at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance at bgsu.edu/the-arts/tickets. Advanced ticket sales are $5 for students, $10 for seniors, and $15 for adults. Tickets purchased on the day of performance at the Department of Theatre and Film Box Office are $10 for students and $20 for both seniors and adults. The box office opens one hour prior to performance times.
