BGSU volleyball team is No. 1 seed in MAC tourney
The Bowling Green State University volleyball team enters the Mid-American Conference Tournament as the No. 1 seed for the first time since 1992. BGSU, which earned first- and second-round byes, will play in a semifinal at 4:30 p.m. Saturday (November 17) at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
The Falcons (19-10, 13-3 MAC) needed to win their final two regular-season matches to secure the top seed. They defeated Ohio University and Kent State University, both in four sets (3-1) on the road November 9-10, respectively, to earn back-to-back MAC regular-season titles.
“I am incredibly proud of our team for winning another MAC regular-season championship,” Coach Danijela Tomic said. “Our goal was to play our best volleyball at the end of the season when it matters the most, and the last two weekends playing on the road showed our depth, poise, warrior spirit and pure grit.
“We have a special team culture where individuals have surrendered 'I' for 'we', where our players play for each other and for something bigger than themselves. When you have all that, you know you've created a championship culture and mind-set.”
Additionally, Kallie Seimet, a senior from Oregon, Ohio, posted 30 digs against Kent State to surpass Chelsey Meek ’09 (2,287 digs) as BGSU's all-time leader with an updated total of 2,300 career digs.
All MAC Tournament matches are set to be broadcast on ESPN+.
