German Club hosts Oktoberfest polka event Oct. 25
University event will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Bowen-Thompson Student Union
The Bowling Green State University German Club and the Department of World Languages and Cultures will host an Oktoberfest polka event from 6 to 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25. The event will be in the Lenhart Grand Ballroom of BGSU’s Bowen-Thompson Student Union.
Doors open at 6 p.m., and a traditional German buffet featuring bratwurst and German potato salad will be served from 6 to 8 p.m. The $15 admission fee (for non-students) in advance ($20 at the door) also covers the buffet. Students are admitted free to the event, but will be charged $10 for the buffet. A cash bar serving soft drinks, wine and beer also will be available.
This event will be an opportunity to learn about – and dance to – German-American polkas and popular music played by the Jay Fox Bavarian Band. Fox, who has more than 40 years of experience and a classical accordionist background, was the AAA National Accordion Champion for four consecutive years. His great-grandparents were born in Leipzig, Germany, and being of German heritage, he specializes in German vocals and music. He is versatile and plays a variety of styles, including Viennese waltz, polka, big band, standards, country, blue-grass, pop, rock, oldies and semi-classical. For more info on the band and its members, please visit their website.
This year’s Oktoberfest includes a raffle featuring gift cards and other prizes from area businesses. Tickets for the raffle will be available at the event. The Falcon Food Restaurant is an event sponsor.
