Doggy auditions for ‘Legally Blonde’
BOWLING GREEN, O.— Bowling Green State University is calling all dogs! The Department of Theatre and Film is looking for superstar canines to perform in the upcoming spring production of “Legally Blonde.” The auditions will be from 5-8 p.m. March 5 in the Donnell Theatre in the Wolfe Center for the Arts.
Interested parties are encouraged to call the department at 419-372-2222 to schedule a 10-minute audition time slot for their dog.
The pup performers should be personable, have good manners, be comfortable with lots of people and noise, and small enough to fit in a handbag.
“While we would like to cast a chihuahua for the role of Bruiser, Elle Woods’ dog, it isn’t mandatory,” said director Michael Ellison. For the part of Rufus, there is more flexibility in terms of breed, but the canine star needs to be small enough to be carried.
Rehearsals for canine cast members are still being finalized, but will begin after March 17. The owner or guardian of the dog will need to be at every rehearsal and performance. Exact rehearsal dates and times will be worked out with the dogs’ owners.
“Legally Blonde is such a fun production, and we are particularly glad to be performing it during April, which is Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month,” said Ellison. “We’re looking forward to raising awareness about this issue.”
Performances for “Legally Blonde” are at 8 p.m. April 24-27 and 2 p.m. April 26. The dog and owner will need to arrive 30 minutes before show time. The show is approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes long.
