BGSU celebrates hometown birthday

BOWLING GREEN, O.—The Bowling Green State University Department of Theatre and Film celebrates the 175th anniversary of the city of Bowling Green's founding with a production of Thornton Wilder's “Our Town” Feb. 14-17.

Curtain time is 8 p.m. Feb. 14-16. Matinee performances on Feb. 16 and 17 begin at 2 p.m.

A Pulitzer Prize winner in 1938, “Our Town” provides a glimpse into the daily lives of Emily, George and the small-town folks of Grover's Corners, N.H. As he narrates the beloved story, the plainspoken Stage Manager reflects with us upon the value of love, marriage, death and—above all—the profound simplicity of everyday life.

In honor of Bowling Green's 175th anniversary, the BGSU theatre and film department is offering a special deal to community residents: show a valid ID listing a Bowling Green, Ohio, address to receive one free adult/student ticket to “Our Town” with the purchase of an adult/student ticket at regular price. “Our Town,” directed by theatre doctoral candidate Vanessa Baker of Springfield, has a large ensemble cast featuring special guest Dr. Nathan Stucky, chair of the Department of Speech Communication at Southern Illinois University, in the role of the Stage Manager.

Also featured are Bowling Green community members Baxter Chambers and Truman Chambers as young Joe Crowell and Wally Webb, respectively, and Dr. F. Scott Regan, BGSU professor emeritus of theatre and film, as Professor Willard.
