$2,000 Latta Scholarships now available
BOWLING GREEN, O.—Applications are now available for $2,000 Delbert Latta Scholarships at Bowling Green State University. Between six and eight of the scholarships, which have doubled in value over the last year, will be awarded.
Friends and family members of Delbert Latta created the scholarship in 1988 after his retirement from the U.S. Congress. He represented Ohio's 5th District for 30 years and served for six years in the Ohio Senate prior to working as a U.S. Representative.
Full-time incoming full-time freshmen and upperclassmen who have at least two semesters before graduation are eligible to apply. Students must have a minimum accumulative grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and exhibit involvement in campus or community organizations.
Student also must be permanent residence in one of the counties in which Latta served. The counties include: Defiance, Erie, Fulton, Henry, Ottawa, Paulding, Putnam, Sandusky, Seneca, Van Wert, Williams and Wood. In Huron County students' permanent residence must be in the city of Bellevue or in Lyme, Norwich, Richmond or Sherman townships. Permanent residence in Lucas County is limited to Harding, Jerusalem, Monclova, Oregon, Providence, Springfield and Swanton townships.
Along with their application, students must submit official transcripts, two letters of reference and an essay of 500 to 1,000 words on an aspect of the free enterprise system in the United States Finalists will participate in an on-campus interview.
The application deadline has been extended to March 3.
