Requesting BGSU Theses & Dissertations
BGSU theses and dissertations are available either in print or electronically, depending on when they were submitted.
Jerome Library has print copies of all masters’ theses and doctoral dissertations granted by Bowling Green State University prior to September 2005. They are searchable in the BGSU Libraries Catalog by keyword, author, and title. Print versions of theses and dissertations are either shelved in the main circulating collection on the first floor of Jerome Library or are stored off-site at the Northwest Ohio Regional Book Depository.
The catalog record for the item will indicate its location. When requesting items from off-site, please allow at least three (3) business days for delivery to the Jerome Library. To request a copy of a thesis or dissertation stored off-site, please contact the Reference Archivist.
The Depository has paper copies of theses and dissertations from 1936 for theses and 1963 for dissertations. Microfilm copies of all dissertations submitted between 1963 and 1987 are available for in-library use on the fifth floor of the Jerome Library at the Center for Archival Collections. In addition, microfilm copies of some theses submitted between 1979 and 2005 and some dissertations submitted between 1987 and 2005 are available for in-library use on the fifth floor of the Jerome Library.
The Graduate Council approved the implementation of electronic submission of theses and dissertations beginning with Fall 2005 for all graduate programs. With the exception of theses written in the MFA program in Creative Writing, paper copies will no longer be accepted by the Graduate College. To find theses and dissertations submitted during this time period, visit OhioLINK’s Electronic Theses and Dissertations Center (ETD). The ETD Center is a free, online database of Ohio's masters’ theses and doctoral dissertations from participating OhioLINK member schools. It contains the abstract for all included theses and dissertations. The full-text is also available if it was submitted. The ETD Center is freely accessible worldwide to anyone interested in searching, viewing, and downloading the theses and dissertations published in Ohio. Using a standard Web browser, users can search the database using basic keyword searching. Authors, university affiliation, and abstracts are all indexed. You can connect directly to BGSU Theses and Dissertations in the ETD.
For researchers unable to visit the library in person to use a print copy of a pre-2005 thesis or dissertation, and for alumni/alumnae looking to obtain a copy of their own work, the thesis or dissertation can be scanned and delivered to you as a PDF at no charge. Please allow two weeks for electronic delivery of a dissertation and four weeks for electronic delivery of a thesis. After the item is scanned, you will be emailed a link to the PDF. PDFs will be available for download for a period of two weeks. Alternately, photocopies can be made at a charge of $.15/page. To obtain a copy of a thesis or dissertation, please contact the Reference Archivist. Please provide as much information as is available for the work (call number, author, title, year of publication, etc.).
Have additional questions? Please contact the Reference Archivist.
