General ITS Student Employment Information

All student positions within Information Technology Services are customer service positions. In order to ensure we provide the best possible support for our customers, each of our positions have the same following requirements.

  1. Must be enrolled as a full-time student at BGSU Bowling Green campus.
  2. Must be available to work a minimum of 12 hours per week.
  3. Detail oriented.
  4. Customer focused mentality.
  5. Familiarity with one or more computer or mobile device operating systems.

No prior technology experience or certifications are required to apply. ITS has position-specific training that is required for all student staff who are hired.

Asset Management

Work directly with the BGSU main campus computer inventory by ensuring inventory accuracy, device quality and maintaining controls throughout the entire asset lifecycle. Assist with projects that advance the efficiency and utilization of computer hardware on campus.

Working Hours:

Mon-Fri | 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

  • Prepare new equipment that arrives from the vendor, as well as gently used equipment for re-use.
  • Maintain inventory control as assets move from one location to another within our stock rooms.
  • Continuously image and configure computers before placing into stock.
  • Complete tickets, including device moves and device pickups as scheduled.
  • Monitor and complete inventory tickets and tasks within the ITS ticketing system.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Classroom Technology Services

Assist clients in the classroom with audio visual (AV) equipment set up, perform classroom technology troubleshooting and diagnosis, and provide basic training on classroom technology. 

Working Hours:

Mon-Thurs | 7:45 a.m.-7:30 p.m.

Fri | 7:45 a.m.-5 p.m.

  • Troubleshoot classroom technology issues.

  • Train clients on the use of classroom technology.

  • Set up/install classroom equipment.

  • Provide technical support in person and via phone. 

  • Other duties as assigned.

Desktop Support

Prepare and install new and gently used devices for BGSU faculty and staff. Aid in the day-to-day operations of ITS including the completion of IT service requests and the management of tickets in the ITS ticketing system.

Working Hours:

Mon-Fri | 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

  • Deploy new and gently used computers for BGSU faculty, staff, departments and offices.

  • Install departmental printers on BGSU devices.

  • Ensure computers are properly connected to the domain and updated.

  • Add local user accounts if requested. 

  • Update all tickets in a highly detailed and timely manner.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Hardware Support

Perform hardware troubleshooting, diagnostics and repairs to University and personally owned devices. Manage workflow of incoming machines to ensure quick turnaround of incidents regarding hardware support.

Working Hours:

Mon-Fri | 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

  • Answer a variety of hardware questions from clients and support staff.

  • Complete assigned work in a timely manner. 

  • Ensure high level of customer satisfaction through all interactions.

  • Manage time effectively with limited supervisor interaction. 

  • Other duties as required.

ITS Media & Content

Develop IT-related media/training modules for both internal and external consumption. Assist with creating, editing and auditing ITS Knowledge Base articles. Manage and implement online marketing strategies for distribution via ITS social media accounts and the ITS website, including the creation of photography and graphics. Act as a customer service liaison to help communicate important news and information to faculty, staff, students and other members of the BGSU community.  

Working Hours:

Mon-Fri | 8 a.m.-6:30 p.m.

  • Learn and display basic IT troubleshooting techniques and become familiar with internal ITS processes. 
  • Work with Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) to draft and audit Knowledge Base articles and write scripts/outline learning objectives.
  • Edit and compile videos including the adjustment of audio, adding motion graphics and exporting various file types. 
  • Conduct photo shoots and edit images of ITS classrooms, labs, devices, etc.  
  • Review/update ITS webpages and monitor/analyze key analytics.
  • Engage student population using images, video, and other media through the posting of original content across all ITS social media accounts.   
  • Ensure all media remains accessibility compliant and align with the University’s brand image. 
  • Maintain an internal library of team-related knowledge and information.  
  • Attend ITS events as needed. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Service Desk

Provide professional and effective technology support to students, faculty, staff and the BGSU community via online chat and phone. Create and manage tickets using the TeamDynamix IT service management system.

Working Hours:

Mon-Fri | 7:30 a.m.-10 p.m.

Sun | 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

  • Provide technical support in person, via phone, and via online chat. 

  • Perform general software/hardware troubleshooting. 

  • Administration of account security and network access. 

  • Assist with Service Desk initiatives/projects.   

  • Provide excellent customer service in all interactions.

Student Support Services

Aid in the day-to-day operations of ITS by performing a variety of job duties including ensuring proper ongoing operation of equipment in computer labs, lab issue reporting/troubleshooting and general student technology support.  Perform routine lab checks, schedule appointments, troubleshoot personal device issues and assist with residence hall connectivity.  Educate students on BGSU technology offerings and their appropriate use by attending ITS events and giving presentations regarding University technology (as necessary). Support academic technology including academic software such as LockDown Browser, Zoom and Canvas.

During the summer, assist with lab hardware refreshes and provide support for other summer ITS projects.

Working Hours:

Mon-Fri | 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Sun | 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

  • Provide user assistance, and monitor and maintain proper operation and upkeep of equipment in ITS computer labs.

  • Assist Residence Hall residents with network connectivity of personally owned devices.

  • Assist faculty, staff, and students by troubleshooting issues with academic software.

  • Monitor and manage incidents in ITS ticketing system. 

  • Other duties as assigned.
