Information about Withdrawing

What is withdrawing at BGSU?

Withdrawing is leaving the university for a period of time. It means that you leave all of your classes. Some universities have different ways to withdraw depending on your reason for leaving BGSU just has one process for everyone.

Things to Think About Before Withdrawing?

Before withdrawing, it is important to connect with the Office of Student Financial Aid & Scholarships to see how your financial aid may be impacted. It is particularly important to check to see the status of any larger scholarships you might have and if there is a process for withdrawing and coming back. Additionally, if you are away from any college for more than six months, your student loans will enter repayment status. Contact the Office of Student Financial Aid & Scholarships with any questions at 419- 372-2651.

When You Leave Matters!

A student who withdraws during the last five weeks of a semester may not return until at least one intervening semester has passed (fall, spring, or summer), except by special permission of the college in which they are enrolled. Withdrawal from the university is only permitted before the last five days of the semester (must be before finals week begins). These dates can be found here at the academic calander website.

Housing

If you live on campus and withdraw you typically have only 24-48  hours to leave the residence hall. Please contact your hall director or 419-372-2343 to start this process. Additionally, be sure to check out at your Residence Hall front desk to complete move out paperwork and return your room key. This is an important step so you will not be charged for an improper move out or for replacing your key.
