Student and employer shaking hands

On-Campus Recruiting

What is on-campus recruiting at BGSU?

On-campus recruiting (OCR) is designed to streamline your hiring efforts and increase your brand visibility at Bowling Green State University. OCR relates to all recruiting activities coordinated through the Kuhlin Career Hub for multiple types of employment (cooperative education, clinical placement, field placement, internship, and/or full-time employment).

Below are the different kinds of recruiting activities.

Posting Positions Using Handshake

The first step in participating in OCR is joining our online recruiting platform, Handshake.

Even if you do not post job opportunities through this platform, a Handshake profile gives you access to register for career fairs and allows the Kuhlin Career Hub to create and manage interview schedules for your organization

Post a Position

Tabling

The Corporate Engagement Team has a reserved tabling space in the lobby of the Bowen-Thompson Student Union every Tuesday between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

Scheduling is done on a first-come, first-served basis, and an organization may only table once per semester. To request a tabling space, please email corporate@bgsu.edu.

*Tabling reqests for part-time employment opportunities should be directed to Amanda Stoughton, asheek@bgsu.edu

Additional Information

Employers are asked to review the position statement set forth by the National Association for Colleges and Employers (NACE) on unpaid internships and familiarize themselves with the “for profit” private sector employer standards as set by the Fair Labor Standards Act.

OCR is available only to verifiable business entities. We cannot extend eligibility to private individuals who are seeking to fill roles including but not limited to family caretaker and personal assistant.

The following organizations are ineligible for OCR:

  • Those related to the production/promotion of marijuana and/or other illegal substances under federal law
  • Adult entertainment organizations
  • Multi-level marketing organizations (MLMs)
  • Those charging upfront costs and/or nonrefundable fees for training and/or materials

As defined by NACE, third-party recruiters are “agencies, organizations, or individuals recruiting candidates for temporary, part-time, or full-time employment opportunities other than for their own needs. This includes entities that refer or recruit for profit or not for profit, and it includes agencies that collect student information to be disclosed to employers for purposes of recruitment and employment."

If posting on behalf of a client company, third-party recruiters must:

Please note that third-party recruiters may participate in Bowling Green State University job fairs only when recruiting for current positions within their own organization.

To provide students with adequate time to thoroughly evaluate options and make an informed decision, employers who participate in OCR are asked to follow these offer guidelines:

  • Converting an internship to a full-time position – Offer to remain open two weeks from receipt of written offer
  • Full-time or internship offers during Fall Recruiting – Offer to remain open until Oct. 25, 2024, or two weeks from receipt of written offer, whichever is longer
  • Full-time or internship offers during Spring Recruiting – Offer to remain open until March 8, 2024, or two weeks from receipt of written offer, whichever is longer

If the above guidelines differ from the needs of your organization, we encourage you to clearly communicate your hiring timeline and accommodate reasonable student requests to extend when possible. We also recommend that you extend any offer in writing.

Bowling Green State University does not support the use of exploding offers. Exploding offers provide a student with 24-48 hours to respond to an extended offer before it is rescinded or altered (i.e., diminished bonuses and location preferences).

The Kuhlin Hub for Career Design and Connections expects employers to adhere to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Guidelines and offer employment without regard to race, sex, gender identity, genetic information, gender expression, sexual orientation, color, national origin, ancestry, religion, age, marital status, disability, pregnancy, military status or status as a Special Disabled or Vietnam-era veteran.

Employers who participate in OCR are prohibited from engaging in unlawful discrimination and are expected to abide by and comply with all federally mandated employment laws, as well as the University's Non-Discrimination in Employment and Education policy. Employers are not permitted to disclose student information to other entities under any circumstances without the student's prior written consent.
