High school students discover pathways to success at Schmidthorst College of Business events
This semester, the college welcomed high school students interested in attending BGSU and enrolling in the Schmidthorst College of Business to three separate events.
Accounting Day
In partnership with the Ohio CPA organization, over 100 high school students interested in the accounting field gathered on the BGSU campus in October for a day of exploration and career development. Business professionals from KAD Consulting, CSH, Deloitte, GBQ, and William Vaughan joined the students to share their insights about what a career in accounting entails and the various career opportunities available. A panel featuring current Schmidthorst College of Business accounting students spoke to the group about the transition from high school to college, what it takes to succeed as an accounting major, and the day-to-day experiences of accounting students. A special thank you to Deloitte for making this experience possible.
Business Day
On Friday, November 1, the Schmidthorst College of Business atmosphere was buzzing as over 150 high school students came together to discover the opportunities that await them at BGSU. The day kicked off with engaging breakout sessions where students dived into the world of various majors and specializations, exploring career paths, scholarship opportunities, and how to immerse themselves in the vibrant life of business students fully. Creativity flourished through a dynamic workshop led by the Paul J. Hooker Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, and attendees had the chance to hear from Dondreya Hendricks, a proud graduate of the Schmidthorst College of Business, who shared insights about her journey. The day wrapped up with desserts with Dean Percival.
InnovateU
Hosted by the Paul J. Hooker Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, InnovateU united five area high schools for an inspiring day of entrepreneurial thinking and activities. Through the "Build a Brand" challenge, students embraced their entrepreneurial spirit, tapping into their creativity to compete in crafting a standout brand. They designed logos, crafted mission statements, and defined target market audiences. Guests also heard from a panel of student ambassadors from the Schmidthorst College of Business, who shared their journeys through college and the pursuit of their passions.
