Emily Zawodny Receives 2024 Karl E. Vogt Outstanding Senior Award

Emily Zawodny was awarded the 2024 Karl Vogt Outstanding Senior Award on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

The award is named in honor of a former dean of the College and recognizes the top graduating senior who has demonstrated superior scholarship and participation, leadership, and excellence in campus and community activities. The award winner is chosen from department nominees.

Since beginning her academic career with the Schmidthorst College of Business, Zawodny has been actively involved in numerous roles, such as student ambassador and project assistant in the Dean’s office. Through these roles, she has taken advantage of leadership roles that have allowed her to contribute to the university’s community in significant and impactful ways. Through being a part of the student ambassador program, Zawodny assisted with orientation programs for incoming freshmen and spearheaded the Schmidthorst Shop, an apparel and accessible shop for the students to purchase College of Business branded times. She also served as Vice President of Mentorship and Vice President of Professional Development in Women in Business Leadership, where she inspired and empowered future female leaders.

Outside of the business school, Zawodny has been involved in Alpha Phi Sorority. Throughout her four-year journey in Alpha Phi, she has had the privilege of holding positions with increasing leadership responsibility, starting as Panhellenic Delegate, then advancing to Vice President of Marketing, and most recently, President.

Throughout her four-year journey at BGSU, while balancing her leadership roles and extracurricular activities, Zawodny's academic journey has been equally influential. While pursuing three specializations and a minor, she maintained a 4.0 GPA.

After graduation, Emily will begin a full-time position as a New Model Buyer at Honda Research and Development.
