Meet our new business faculty

We are proud to welcome our outstanding new faculty members. The 2023-24 academic year brings with it a wealth of fresh perspectives, research acumen, diverse backgrounds and expertise and a passion for educating the business leaders of tomorrow.  

Patricia Chambers is an assistant teaching professor of business communication. Prior to beginning her academic career, she worked in marketing and business development for public television and several international and regional law firms across the country.  

Chambers brings her management experience into the classroom to fully prepare students for their first day on the job or internship. Students will learn to write, collaborate and present with confidence. She is dedicated to inspiring future managers to lead their teams with diplomacy and care.  

Her pedagogical training through the California Acceleration Project with Long Beach City College and Pasadena City College has empowered her to create engaging courses where students are encouraged to find their voice in a supportive environment.

David Lobo will be joining BGSU in January 2024 as an assistant teaching professor focused on our introduction to business course. He will be the liaison between the Schmidthorst College of Business and the Radbill Center for Life Design as we continue to refine the integration of Life Design into our business curriculum.  

Prior to beginning his academic career, he worked in banking, insurance and business development for ICONTEC Internacional, PROMERICA Bank Honduras and HSBC Insurance Honduras.  

Lobo brings his international business development, sales and financial industry experience into the classroom to help students explore the various career opportunities across business disciplines. He is dedicated to bringing industry experts to the classroom and supporting students in their career prototyping journeys.

Assistant teaching professor 

Lauren Matkaluk is an assistant professor of accounting. She holds a Ph.D. in accounting from Arizona State University and a Master of Science in Accounting and Bachelor of Accountancy from the University of San Diego.  

Her research focuses on the impact of regulation and reporting standards on financial reporting and audit quality. She also researches the role of audit partners' experiences on career portfolios and audit quality.  

Prior to obtaining her Ph.D., Matkaluk worked as a senior accountant for Sempra Energy and as an external auditor for Grant Thornton LLP. She is a certified public accountant licensed by the California Board of Accountancy.

Dr. Will Reed is an assistant teaching professor focused on our capstone business course. He will be supporting the redesign of the course to integrate additional experiential learning, including community-based consulting projects, into our curriculum.   

Prior to beginning his academic career, he served as a U.S. Army Captain where he led, developed, trained and supervised activities of 175 personnel. His professional experience also includes sales and management consulting experience at companies such as 3M LLC and Samsung.   

Reed brings his consulting experience to the classroom to help support students in the integration and application of their business discipline knowledge to community organization problems. He is dedicated to mentoring students to build their confidence in solving complex issues as they begin their professional careers.

Will Reed

Assistant teaching professor 

M. Gabriela Sava is an assistant professor in the Department of Applied Statistics and Operations Research. She earned her Ph.D. in business analytics and operations from the University of Pittsburgh.  

Her research focuses on all aspects of healthcare analytics, particularly the application of decision models to problems associated with preventive healthcare services. As healthcare providers shift their focus from treatment to prevention, the preventive healthcare services area offers a variety of opportunities for study from an analytical perspective. A better understanding of the field could help in the design of improved preventive healthcare services and policies that would be simultaneously patient-centered, personalized and cost-efficient.  

Sava is the winner of the 2020 INFORMS MCDM Junior Researcher Best Paper Award and the 2021 Graduate Teaching Excellence Award from Wilbur O. and Ann Powers College of Business.

M. Gabriela Sava

Assistant professor 

Seong Kyoung Shin is an assistant professor of marketing. She holds a Ph.D. in marketing from Purdue University. She also earned a Master of Arts from Columbia University and Yale University, focusing on statistics and management, respectively. Her area of expertise is empirical modeling and marketing analytics, focusing on digital marketing, and healthcare marketing.   

Before Shin’s academic career, she worked at Deloitte LLC as a data analytic consultant. She participated in multiple projects, including developing a demand forecasting model and devising promotion portfolio/targeting strategies. She also led research collaboration at Cigna as a data scientist, evaluating targeting performance and investigating the optimal timing of marketing communication.
