Academic Counseling

All admitted students are assigned a faculty advisor or career and academic counselor who is a specialist in the student’s area of interest. All students are encouraged to make regular contact with their advisor/counselor. Advising is required for all first-semester freshman, first-semester transfer students, and all guest students who are registering for twelve or more credit hours of course work.

Although an advisor checks each student’s record, the responsibility for meeting graduation requirements lies with the student and not with the advisor, the department or the dean. Thorough familiarity with the undergraduate catalog and the degree audit system (DARS) is essential.

Academic advisors from the University’s main campus are available for phone appointments upon request to provide information on bachelor degree programs.

Career Counseling

Academic and Career Counseling also provides career counseling and information to students, alumni and community members. Counselors offer job search coaching, resume review, and information on effective interviewing.  Individual appointments are available. A wide variety of career-related resources can be accessed through the Career Center website: https://www.bgsu.edu/career-center.html.  All BGSU students have access to an online career assessment, FOCUS through the MyBGSU web portal.
