Sales and Services Marketing
College of Business Administration
BSBA areas of specialization
Department of Marketing
234 Business Administration Building, 419-372-2041
Purpose
The specialization in Sales and Services Marketing is a more focused option than the general marketing specialization. The U.S. has shifted to a service based economy as reflected in the growth in employment opportunities in service-based businesses. The Sales and Services Marketing specialization helps students acquire knowledge and develop skills preparing them for the unique challenges faced by service-based firms. Required foundation courses in Services Marketing, Professional Sales, and Consumer Behavior prepare students for more advanced study in either Services Marketing or Sales. In consultation with a faculty advisor, students choose their electives, internship, and capstone experience to fit their specific interests within the Sales track or Services Marketing track.
Unique to BGSU, the specialization in Sales and Services Marketing is the only undergraduate curriculum of its type in the U.S. In comparison, nearly all university marketing programs around the U.S. focus on the marketing and selling of goods. Yet virtually all professional sales occupations are service oriented and career opportunities in the services-sector of the economy continue to grow. The Sales and Services Marketing specialization better prepares students for successful and rewarding positions in areas such as marketing communications or advertising account management, sport and entertainment services, health care services, customer service management, financial services, real estate sales, telecommunications services, travel and hospitality services, and many non-profit organizations.
BSBA general degree requirements
